The Hoppe Store served the town of Carmine from the 1900s into the 1970s and was operated first by Ernest W. Hoppe and later his son, Alfred Hoppe.  The business began as a partnership between William Umland and Ernest Hoppe.  In later years, the building was opened as an antique store and still serves in this capacity.  In 2005, the building was purchased by Rita, Inc.
